The rack · check dictionary
Is that actually a word?
Settle the argument before you play it. Type a word and we'll check it against the same dictionary the rest of the toolkit uses.
About the dictionary
What dictionary is this checking against?
ENABLE1, the same public-domain, roughly 172,000-word list used across every tool on this site — not a live connection to any specific game's official word list.
Why does it say a word I've definitely played before isn't valid?
A few likely reasons: it's a proper noun, an abbreviation, or a word only valid in a different official dictionary (NWL vs. CSW, for instance) than the general list this tool checks. Word-game dictionaries genuinely disagree with each other on edge cases.
Does it check hyphenated words or phrases?
No — only single, unhyphenated words, which matches how virtually all tile-based word games score plays anyway.
- Check a risky word before you commit a turn to it — losing a turn on an invalid play is one of the more avoidable ways to lose a close game.
- If a word fails here but you're confident it's valid in your specific game's dictionary, that's a sign the two dictionaries disagree on that entry rather than a bug — the point value shown is still a useful reference either way.
