The rack · word scramble
Turn any word into a puzzle worth solving.
Type a word to scramble its letters, or pull a random one. Handy for building your own jumble puzzles, flashcards, or a quick word-game warm-up.
How to use it
Make the puzzle, keep the answer hidden
Enter any word and we'll shuffle its letters into a fresh scrambled tile set — the answer stays hidden until you choose to reveal it, so it's safe to screen-share or print for a group. Don't have a word in mind? Use a random pull and set the length you want.
Can the scrambled version ever come out the same as the original word?
We check for that and reshuffle automatically, so you won't end up with a "scrambled" puzzle that's identical to its own answer.
Is there a way to make the puzzle harder?
Pick a longer random word — eight or more letters tends to scramble into something far less obvious than a four-letter word — or one with repeated or common letters, which hides the structure better.
Can I reuse the same scrambled puzzle later?
Each scramble is generated fresh and isn't saved, so if you want to reuse one, note down the scrambled letters themselves (not just the answer) somewhere before you leave the page.
- For classroom or party use, scramble a themed word list one word at a time rather than relying purely on the random-word button, so every puzzle stays on-topic.
- Longer words make better group puzzles — an 8–10 letter word gives everyone a real "aha" moment, while anything under 5 letters is usually solved in seconds.
